The Foundation is pleased to have made a grant to the Oncology Ward at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, which is one of the largest children’s cancer centres in the UK. The grant will enable them to purchase appropriate toys and arts and craft supplies that the staff feel would most benefit their patients including younger and older kids.
Patient stays on ward 18 range from three days up to a few months, it is important that they have play and craft activities they can do as a means of entertainment and distraction.

Research has found that art benefits patients by supporting their physical, mental and emotional recovery, relieving anxiety, reducing stress and loneliness, and decreasing the perception of pain. Arts and crafts activities can help patients to express their emotions and creativity whilst also giving them a sense of achievement.
